Aeroflex-Andover Airport in New Jersey is a unique piece of general aviation history, home to vintage aircraft, a longtime flight school, a maintenance business, and generations of pilots.

Now, the airport’s future is in question. Tenants were notified that the state Forest Fire Service plans to terminate their leases and demolish the airport’s hangars, citing concerns about their condition. Airport users say the hangars can be refurbished and fear their removal could ultimately turn Aeroflex-Andover into a facility used primarily for forest-fire operations.

AOPA is urging pilots and members of the general aviation community to speak up in support of Aeroflex-Andover and other airports like it. Once a general aviation airport is gone, it can be extremely difficult to bring it back.
